When i try screen recording with Vista it laggs out/freezes/locks up for around 10 secs. Any help?

What do I need to download to get my Camtasia to get into video editor?
It says I need to download something because Windows movie maker, and sony vegas don’t recongize the file Camatasia came from, anyone can help? What version your camtasia? how to I capture video from a computer screen?
Not using digital camera or camcorder. I’d like to capture video directly from computer. How do I do that? Do I have to buy that machine? Using software. A free software to use is CamStudio20.
